FAQ
What is your Organic Certification?
JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standard) is a system used in Japan to establish and regulate standards for various agricultural and food products, including organic products. JASCERT (Japan Organic and Natural Foods Association Certification), often referred to as JAS Organic Certification, is a certification body accredited by the Japanese government to verify and certify products as organic according to the JAS standards. This certification ensures that products meet the specific criteria and regulations for organic production and labeling in Japan.
We have chosen not to seek dual certification because JAS certification standards are rigorous and recognised by Australian organic certification bodies.
Is Matcha safe whilst pregnant and/or breastfeeding?
The amount of caffeine contained in our matcha is below the advised limit for pregnant and/or breastfeeding women. It is always best to seek advice and consult with your GP or usual healthcare provider for personalised guidance on caffeine consumption during pregnancy and breastfeeding. They can help you determine a safe and appropriate level of caffeine intake based on your individual circumstances.
What is the best time to have Matcha?
The best time to have matcha can vary depending on individual preferences and lifestyle. Many people like to start their day with a cup of matcha. It provides a gentle caffeine boost, along with the calming effects of L-theanine, helping to increase alertness and focus.
If you're sensitive to caffeine, you may want to avoid it in the evening to prevent sleep disturbances.

How should I store my Matcha?
To best store matcha and preserve its freshness, keep it in an airtight container away from light, moisture, and strong odors. Store the packet in a fridge OR a cool, dark cupboard to protect it from exposure to air and light, which can degrade its flavour and colour over time.
Is there caffeine in Matcha?
Matcha does contain caffeine but also contains an amino acid called L-theanine, which has a calming and relaxing effect. The combination of caffeine and L-theanine is said to provide a more sustained and balanced energy boost, without the jitters or crashes often associated with coffee consumption.
Why does some Matcha taste bitter?
Bitterness can be caused by low-quality Matcha, or a common error includes using boiling water instead of warm water (80-85 degrees) when whisking it. Matcha stored incorrectly can also be a cause of bitter tasting Matcha.
